At St Edward’s, there is a strong culture of enthusiastic and joyful participation in all areas of school life and we are proud of the exceptional breadth of our extra-curricular programme. We offer over 30 sports and activities, 15 types of dance, 500 individual music lessons a week, over 25 dance, drama and musical performances a year, a community volunteering programme and over 60 clubs and societies covering academic and other interests – from beekeeping to debating, Medicine to coding, ecology to the Model United Nations. Our soccer programme benefits from a partnership with Chelsea Football Club, whose coaches work with pupils at St Edward’s and for which we are a satellite training centre.
St Edward’s features outstanding facilities on its 100-acre campus. In the Quad, alongside the inspiring academic facilities in the Christie Centre, sits the magnificent Olivier Hall, a 1000-seater auditorium for performances and lectures, the largest in Oxford. Beyond the Quad, pupils have access to over 20 courts and pitches for all kinds of sports, a boathouse on the River Thames, a high-specification Music School with over 20 practice rooms and a Recital Room, The North Wall Arts Centre and an Art & Design Centre. Plans are underway to build a new state-of-the-art Science Centre and a new Sports Centre featuring a rowing tank, a strength and conditioning suite and indoor courts for a range of sports, plus an adjacent athletics track and a 3G artificial pitch for year-round soccer.
All pupils are supported in their boarding houses by a core residential team of a Housemaster or Housemistress (HM), and Assistant HM, a residential Tutor, a Matron and a team of visiting Tutors. Each pupil has a personal Tutor in the House who provides guidance and support for all aspects of their life at school. House teams are supported by the wider support network including senior wellbeing and safeguarding leaders; the School Doctor, Counsellor and Psychologist; the wellbeing team; and the Health Centre and Chaplaincy teams. The Deputy Head Welfare takes particular responsibility for our international families. Within the pupil body, School Prefects, Heads of House and specially trained Peer Listeners play an important part in the support network too.
