About Mercersburg Academy

Founded in 1893 in southern Pennsylvania, Mercersburg Academy has more than 130 years of perfecting what it means to be a proving ground for college and for life. Our 300-acre campus is a vibrant and egalitarian community of 440 students from across the country and around the world. Mercersburg believes deeply in our call to “Define Yourself Here,” and students do so through top-tier academic courses, residential life programming, and extracurricular activities. Guided by dedicated faculty and staff, students at Mercersburg build strength of character and intellect. They're challenged to discover who they are, they're empowered to express themselves, and they graduate prepared for college, for their careers, and for lives of leadership and service.

What Makes Us Unique

Meaning and Mastery: Mercersburg Academy's academic program fosters a self-determined, meaningful connection to learning in order to promote long-term retention of knowledge and joy in learning. Through ongoing and formative feedback, iteration, and the promotion of student autonomy, students are supported to stretch themselves academically and absorb and apply new knowledge. Consider Mercersburg's capstone experiences: All Mercersburg students participate in a capstone program in their senior year: MAPS, Research Science, or Springboard. Capstones are dynamic, self-directed endeavors built around each student's individual scholastic and personal interests. They are designed to foster original thinking and allow students to proliferate their own ideas while producing compelling work, helping to solve real-world problems, and preparing for college. Civic Engagement: Through an intentionally designed program, Mercersburg upholds civic standards that are tailored specifically for the composition and needs of the Mercersburg community. The program aims to cultivate the knowledge, skills, and attitudes essential to participate as a well-informed and engaged member of our community, nation, and world. By harnessing Mercersburg's culture of individual humility and its collective pride, the civic engagement program prepares students to lead and serve the world.
