Founded in 1848, Blair Academy is a dynamic, coeducational boarding school that engages 465 high school students. On our historic New Jersey campus, located 65 miles from New York City, students pursue a superior college preparatory education amid a rich, vibrant community life.
Strong student-teacher relationships are the heart of the Blair experience. Expert faculty members teach our classes to exacting standards, yet, at the same time, they truly know—and care about—our students as scholars, leaders, athletes, artists, friends, and individuals. This knowledge fosters personalized learning opportunities and leads to higher academic achievement, as students are challenged to reach their full potential.
The School’s broad athletic program includes 30 varsity and 22 JV and thirds teams, as well as exceptional venues for students to train year-round. The enclosed winter sports complex features two tennis courts and a turf field installed over three other courts. The J. Li Golf Training Center is equipped with two launch monitors and simulators allowing students to play their choice of 20 top courses worldwide with a 1,200 foot putting surface and chipping area. We also have our newest indoor crew facility that houses eight-person scull/sweep tanks along with a personal weight-training room.
Forward-thinking leadership education, project-based learning in our technology-rich Chiang Center for Innovation and Collaboration, enhanced research opportunities in the expanded Bogle Science Center and meaningful service initiatives help prepare students for success. Blair graduates distinguish themselves at top colleges, but more importantly, find professional and personal fulfillment by making a difference in the world.
Unique Characteristics
Dual Advisor System: The dual-advisor system is a foundational element of relationship-based learning at Blair. Students are known and supported well by two faculty advisors: an assigned academic monitor who helps guide them on their academic path, and a faculty member of their own choosing who offers social and emotional support at every juncture of the Blair experience.
Society of Skeptics: Blair’s Society of Skeptics program was established as a forum for students and faculty to discuss and debate important global issues; it has grown to become one of the premier high school lecture series in the United States. Without exception, every Tuesday night at 7 p.m., speakers from the political, social, scientific, economic and literary arenas come to campus to share their unique perspectives with students, who are encouraged to engage with presenters, ask questions and debate points of view.
