George School is a co-educational, boarding and day high school located in Newtown, Pennsylvania, just 30 miles from Philadelphia and 80 miles from New York City. Because George School offers both the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum, as well as Advanced Placement (AP) courses, students have the chance to challenge themselves academically while exploring a wide range of creative, athletic, and leadership pursuits. One of the best parts of the George School experience? Our commitment to individuality, diversity & inclusion, and global perspectives – it helps that our students represent more than 40 different countries!
Unique Characteristics
George School’s Signature Academic Program breaks the year into seven five-week terms, allowing students to have high degrees of focus and wellness while creating a customizable curriculum. In addition, as possibly the only Quaker IB school in the world, you will find intellectually engaged students who care deeply about each other and the larger world.
The George School Academic Program is built for flexibility and innovation. Students can be themselves even as they work towards transformative growth. Faculty can create unique interdisciplinary courses that energize the classroom. The program gives every member of our community agency to be daring—to carve their own paths, their own passions, their most authentic selves. With the generosity of an anonymous donor, all students enrolled in a travel-based academic course can participate in domestic and international travel with no course fee. Approximately 100 students participate in these courses each year. Expressive Arts. Self-expression has long been a cornerstone of a George School education. Through a wide-ranging, deep-thinking arts program, we give our students the opportunity to speak what is in their hearts and in their dreams. In image and song and dance and performance, they tell stories of self-discovery, explore new perspectives, and integrate ideas and experiences from other classes and other parts of their lives. Kindness, goodness and global citizenship. As a Quaker community, we celebrate diversity, practice empathy, and recognize our global citizenship. We empower our students to become responsible, compassionate, and courageous leaders who will positively impact our collective future. Athletics with integrity. We pursue athletics with focus and integrity. Our athletics program is centered around hard work, a commitment to bringing out the best in one another, and the Quaker values of respect and ethical engagement. Our students forge character through leadership, collaboration, and resilience. A powerful network. Our graduates go forth with a life-long connection to George School and apply what they’ve learned—core values, adaptability, transformative habits of heart and mind—to advance the common good. As mentors to current students, as facilitators and leaders in organizations and communities across the country and around the world, they’re living proof that we’re brighter together.
