Travel Opportunities: Travel opportunities are an important part of the Storm King experience, complementing the school’s academics and community service programs while enriching student life. In recent years, students have explored a variety of domestic and international destinations, gaining cultural, educational, and environmental experiences. The Guest Speaker Series: The Storm King School connects students with accomplished thinkers, creators, and leaders from a variety of fields. Speakers include distinguished scholars, National Geographic Fellows, entrepreneurs, and experts from institutions such as Stanford University and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Through engaging presentations and discussions, students are encouraged to broaden their perspectives, think critically about global issues, and develop leadership skills beyond the classroom. Independent Study: Independent study allows students to learn about a subject that is unavailable in our established curriculum or about a topic students would like to explore in greater depth. During their senior year, students can create their own course, determine their course of study, and then work one-on-one with a faculty member to earn academic credit.

Our full-time school counselor holds advanced degrees in School Counseling from Long Island University and has worked with students across multiple districts, providing counseling, risk assessments, and career programming. Each student is also assigned a faculty advisor that they meet with weekly. During the advisory meetings there is a curriculum based on mental health and well being.

Other: The SKS English Language Learner (ELL) Program is designed to help students develop the language, academic, and social skills needed to thrive in school and participate confidently in English-speaking communities. Through comprehensive screening, placement, instruction, and assessment, students strengthen their listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities in a content- and project-based learning environment. The program also emphasizes vocabulary development, grammar, and transferable skills that promote independent learning and success in academic, professional, and social settings. Students apply these skills through interdisciplinary coursework, cultural events such as the International Fair, summer programs, and educational travel experiences that connect language learning with real-world engagement.

Other: The Academic Support Program provides individualized instruction that helps students understand their unique learning strengths and challenges while developing effective academic and social strategies. Through a personalized, multisensory approach, teachers work closely with students to review assessment results, identify accommodations, and create customized learning plans that support their goals. The program supports students with a variety of learning and attention differences, including executive functioning challenges, ADD/ADHD, language-based learning differences, specific language impairment, school anxiety, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and auditory processing difficulties. By helping each student develop a detailed learning profile and a personalized toolbox of skills and strategies, the program fosters independence, self-advocacy, and lifelong learning success.
