McCallie School

Tornado Term: Yearly 10 day course for every upper school student with an emphasis on experiential learning. Experiences range from local half-day courses to two-week international trips. The CAVE: The Center for Animation, Video, and Entertainment (CAVE) focuses on all things creative. The center features a sound studio, podcast studio, photography studio, video viewing room, and a Mac-based computer lab for all your production and editing needs. Staffed by experts in the field, the center guides the creative vision of our students and helps them bring their ideas to life. Wild Blue Yonder (McCallie in Montana): Two-week leadership excursion in Montana led by faculty, staff, and alumni. Programming focuses on the history of the area, including following Lewis and Clark's journey, and also studies such as fly fishing, fisheries and wildlife biology, geology, and photography and journaling. The trip cultimates in a three-day backpacking trip across the Snowcrest Mountains. This course offers significant learning and discovery in environmental studies and ecology, transformational leadership and community building, and in self-reliance, resiliency, and reflection.

The Upper School Counseling Center is made up of three full-time counselors, the school chaplain (all of whom hold masters degrees in counseling or pastoral care), and the assistant chaplain. We share responsibility for the student population in a way that allows us to establish and foster meaningful relationships with boys and their families throughout their time at McCallie.
