Maplebrook’s counseling, wellness, and mental health resources are part of a whole-campus support model, not a standalone clinical office. The school serves students with learning differences, executive functioning challenges, social-pragmatic needs, anxiety, ADHD, autism spectrum profiles, language-based learning challenges, and uneven cognitive or adaptive profiles. Because of this, emotional wellness is woven into the academic, residential, social, and independence-building structure of each day. Maplebrook provides counseling and student-support services that help students build emotional regulation, self-awareness, confidence, resilience, and appropriate self-advocacy. Support may include individual check-ins with counseling or student-support staff, social-emotional guidance around anxiety, peer relationships, homesickness, transitions, frustration tolerance, and independence, conflict-resolution support, restorative conversations, collaboration with families and outside providers, support during moments of dysregulation, and ongoing communication among academic, residential, clinical, and administrative teams. The emphasis is practical and developmental, helping students better understand themselves, recover from mistakes, use strategies, and gradually become more independent. Maplebrook’s wellness model is closely connected to the structure of the boarding environment. Students are supported from wake-up through bedtime, allowing staff to observe patterns, coach students in real time, and help them practice skills consistently across settings. Wellness support may include predictable daily routines, residential-life guidance, structured meals, activities, evening programming, physical education, recreation, health-office coordination, medication oversight, staff-supported hygiene, organization, sleep routines, daily responsibilities, mentoring, and adult guidance throughout the day. This is especially important because many Maplebrook students need support not only in the classroom, but also with transitions, peer interactions, self-care, emotional regulation, and knowing how to ask for help. The residential model allows those needs to be addressed where they naturally occur. Maplebrook’s mental health resources are supportive, proactive, and collaborative. The school is well suited for students who benefit from structure, encouragement, social coaching, and consistent adult support. Maplebrook is not a psychiatric treatment center or hospital-based therapeutic placement; rather, it is a school community with strong student-support systems for young people whose learning differences may intersect with anxiety, self-esteem concerns, social vulnerability, and emotional immaturity. When students require outside therapy, psychiatric care, or specialized clinical treatment, Maplebrook can collaborate with outside providers, with the family and provider team remaining important partners. A key part of Maplebrook’s wellness framework is the RISE program, which supports growth in responsibility, independence, self-awareness, and community participation. RISE helps students understand that maturity is built through daily choices, not just academic performance. Through RISE, students are encouraged to develop respect for self and others, independence in routines and responsibilities, social accountability, emotional growth, executive functioning, and community readiness. This gives counseling and wellness work a practical structure. Students are not simply told to make better choices; they are coached, supported, and given a clear framework for understanding what growth looks like.
