With afternoon games five times a week, a choice of nearly 30 different sports, and regular inter-school and inter-House matches, boys are kept healthy and active. Engagement with the creative and performing arts teaches our boys to be more self-disciplined, attentive and better at organising their busy lives. Through the arts, boys find their own voice, the confidence to express their individual creativity, and a connection with the most enduring and significant elements of our cultural past.
The school’s estate covers approximately 324 acres (131 hectares) and accommodates its academic, residential, sporting, cultural and pastoral activities. Its distinctive character comes from the close integration of centuries-old buildings, landscaped gardens, woodland and open playing fields. The campus is not a single enclosed complex. It has grown organically around Harrow on the Hill, with buildings and facilities distributed across the hill and its surrounding grounds. There are many buildings and facilities, with some of the most important being: Old Schools - the original teaching building dating back to 1615 The 12 boarding Houses Multiple teaching buildings - most academic disciplines have their own building(s) The School Chapel and the Vaughan Library, both designed by George Gilbert Scott Speech Room, the School's main assembly and ceremonial space The Shepherd Churchill Dining Hall A huge range of indoor and outdoor sports facilities, with a brand new sports centre due to open in 2029 An extensive range of arts and cultural facilities Many other residential, administrative and service-related buildings
Rather than being one single, distinguishable aspect of what we do, comprehensive and effective pastoral care underpins a boy's entire experience of Harrow: Pastoral Support Committee 24/7 Medical Centre staffed by qualified nurses with a doctor's surgery every weekday School Psychologist and School Counsellor Visiting Psychiatrist (once a week) Two full time Chaplains (one Anglican priest and one Catholic priest) and other part-time Chaplains House Visitors Independent Listening Ear Designated Safeguarding Lead with a team of deputies Strong peer to peer support among boys Comprehensive PSHEE programme
