Description

The Bishop Strachan School is a leading independent JK to Grade 12 day and boarding school for girls. Through our challenging inquiry-based program, we not only equip our students with core academic knowledge and skills, we empower them to become capable, confident changemakers. Our students ask bold questions and apply concepts to gain a deep understanding of real-world issues that are relevant to them. Our 7.5-acre campus includes STEAM-focused learning spaces, arts, design, multimedia and film labs, and athletics facilities, including a turf field – the first in Ontario at a girls’ school.

BSS Boarding is a vibrant, nurturing environment that welcomes Grade 8 to 12 students from Canada and around the world. Boarding students grow academically, socially and personally through thoughtfully designed programming that fosters self-reliance, confidence and leadership. After-school and weekend programs enable Boarding students to explore their passions, build life skills and connect with their peers, while leadership opportunities help them set goals, take initiative and make an impact. They develop the qualities of the Signature of a
BSS Girl and grow into independent, resilient young adults. For more than 150 years, BSS has inspired girls to be fearless and educated them to be leaders.

Unique Characteristics

Independence in Our World-Class-City – Toronto is our extended classroom. Age-appropriate off-campus activities (think: concerts, art exhibits, sports events, outdoor adventures) help girls safely explore, build confidence and develop independence.

The Signature of a BSS Girl is an evidence based set of personal attributes that are encouraged, nurtured and taught at BSS. It is the product of intensive research on girls’ psychology, well-being, character development and leadership. We believe it is vital for students to look both inward at themselves and outward, understanding and caring about their impact on others. Curiosity, self-awareness, grit, voice and leadership are viewed through the lens of a growth mindset when focused on the self, and ethical citizenship when focused on the self in relation to others.
