Description

Founded in 1814, NYA upholds a tradition of academic excellence, blending a rigorous college prep curriculum with programs that prepare students for success. In a supportive environment, students are encouraged to take risks, embrace challenges and explore. The 20+ acre campus offers the charm of a coastal town with access to urban centers. The Lower School follows Montessori methods through K, fostering independence and curiosity. Middle School students thrive in a nurturing environment, and Upper School students engage in honors-level coursework, supported by dedicated faculty. Opportunities include Diplomas w/Distinction, independent studies, and unique signature programs. NYA earned the AP Honor Roll Platinum Distinction the past 2 years. NYA has a strong arts program & competitive athletics, with ice hockey teams in the NEPSAC, training in an on-campus facility. With a focus on academic excellence and a supportive environment, NYA prepares students to thrive in college and beyond.

Unique Characteristics

Our signature programs include 7 Diplomas with Distinction in areas including STEM; creative writing; visual arts; language, culture, and community; outdoor and environmental leadership; social advocacy; and music performance, entrepreneurship, and community.

NYA launched a financial literacy curriculum in 2025 designed to immerse students in financial planning, including budgeting, saving, borrowing, investing, and taxation. Students are given the opportunity to manage a forty thousand-dollar endowment portfolio from freshman through senior year with guidance from NYA faculty and investment professionals. Students collectively make investment decisions throughout four years while managing risk and learning the art of re-balancing.
