Description

The Newman School, located on Marlborough Street in Boston’s prestigious Back Bay, offers a unique educational experience in the heart of the city. Our students seamlessly integrate with the vibrant Boston community, running on the Esplanade for cross country practice, performing at the Boston Conservatory Theater, doing additional lab work at Novartis, analyzing curation and aesthetics at the Museum of Fine Arts. Additionally, as the only boarding school in Boston, Newman is a global community where day and boarding students benefit from learning together. We are a community of students, families, and faculty from diverse backgrounds, where mutual respect, integrity, and civic responsibility are essential. Guided by Cardinal Newman’s motto, “Cor ad Cor Loquitur” (Heart Speaks to Heart), we believe that true education extends beyond academic knowledge, aiming to nurture well-rounded individuals ready to make meaningful contributions to society. Our curriculum, which includes the International Baccalaureate program, combines intellectual rigor with experiential learning. Students engage deeply with both their studies and the city, balancing independence with leadership. Newman’s programs in service, leadership, sports, and the arts, supported by dedicated teachers, prepare students for success in prestigious colleges and universities, including Boston College, Boston University, Northeastern and Brandeis.

Unique Characteristics

CITY AS OUR CAMPUS – Students experience the city through resourceful learning. They take advantage of organizations and institutions around Boston, such as the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston Public Library, The Esplanade, the Alliance Francaise, and several prestigious universities.

GLOBAL-MINDEDNESS – Through a culturally diverse student body, coupled with the highly regarded International Baccalaureate program, students develop a global-minded perspective. They explore ideas in depth, discover passions, create relationships, and cultivate a sense of purpose beyond self.

PARTNERSHIPS – Newman’s collaborations with leading institutions provide unmatched opportunities: student-athletes train and compete at The TRACK at New Balance, one of the nation’s top sports facilities, while aspiring musicians can take classes at the New England Conservatory alongside world-class faculty and peers.
