Description

Westover School is a girls-centered independent boarding and day school for grades 9–12, located in Middlebury, Connecticut. Founded in 1909 by pioneering educator Mary Robbins Hillard, Westover was created to provide young women with a transformative education grounded in academic rigor, character development, and leadership. Just 90 minutes from New York City and Boston, Westover is a close-knit community of 200 students, with two-thirds boarding and one-third attending as day students. Our vibrant community is home to intellectually curious and ambitious students from Connecticut, across the United States, and around the world.

Unique Characteristics

For over 30 years, Westover’s Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) program has empowered young women to lead and innovate in STEM through rigorous academics, hands-on research, and real-world problem solving. Now housed in our state-of-the-art Center for Women in Science and Engineering, WISE offers enriched coursework, mentorship from faculty and industry leaders, and collaborative projects that sharpen critical thinking, leadership, and teamwork. Graduates leave prepared for top-tier universities and meaningful careers, equipped not only with technical expertise but the vision and confidence to drive change in fields from medicine to environmental sustainability—embodying Westover’s mission to prepare women to think deeply, act boldly, and contribute globally.

Westover is home to students from nearly 20 countries and a wide range of U.S. states, creating a uniquely vibrant, multicultural learning environment.
