Rock Point School is an inclusive, independent boarding and day school for grades 9–12 in Burlington, Vermont, serving bright and creative students who haven’t found success in conventional classrooms. Founded in 1928, Rock Point School is accredited by the Association of Independent Schools of New England (AISNE) and is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
Many of our students experience anxiety, ADHD, level 1 autism, or learning differences and benefit from personalized academics, small classes, and a strong focus on social-emotional growth. Students are also often exploring questions of identity, and Rock Point has long been a welcoming and affirming community for LGBTQ+ teens.
Our campus is located just a walk away from both the shores of Lake Champlain and downtown Burlington, making outdoor recreation and the energy of a vibrant college town a natural extension of the classroom. With several nearby colleges and universities, students have opportunities to explore future educational pathways, while community service and experiential learning help deepen their connection to the broader community.

At Rock Point School, students are truly known. A relationship-based approach is woven into every aspect of the school community, from classroom teaching to advising where each student is paired with a staff mentor, residential life, and everyday interactions among students and staff. Rock Point’s educational philosophy centers on supporting the whole student academically, socially, and emotionally.
With an intentionally small school community, teachers and staff are able to provide a highly personalized and flexible educational experience. Students are empowered to explore their interests, advocate for their needs, and express themselves authentically. Learning is designed to be adaptable, allowing students to demonstrate their understanding in ways that best suit their strengths and learning styles, whether through essays, presentations, creative projects, or hands-on experiences.
